Wills

Having a valid and up to date Will is the cornerstone of a proper estate plan. Our lawyer will meet with you for a first appointment to gather information and answer your questions regarding the contents of your Will. Unlike some other firms, you will not be given a long and complicated questionnaire to fill out prior to the first appointment. Instead, we will send you a simple document with some suggested topics to think about prior to the first meeting with the lawyer.

Personal Directive

A Personal Directive allows you to appoint someone to make healthcare and other personal decisions if you are alive but unable to make these decisions for yourself due to mental incapacity. This document is sometimes referred to as a “living will”.

It is important to have a Personal Directive naming the person you trust to make decisions for you in the event of a severe illness or injury causing you to lose mental capacity. Many people are surprised to learn that being married or in a common law partnership does not give their spouse the automatic right to make these important decisions.

Put your mind at ease by contacting our office to create your Personal Directive with our Calgary wills lawyer.

Enduring Power of Attorney

An Enduring Power of Attorney (“EPA”) allows you to appoint someone to make decisions concerning your property and manage your finances on your behalf. An EPA may come into effect only after you have lost mental capacity, or if can be put into effect immediately.

Whether you own property solely or jointly with another person, a validly executed EPA is critical to ensuring that your property can be appropriately and efficiently managed for your benefit in the event that you become unable to do so yourself.

Contact our office to discuss creating your Enduring Power of Attorney today.

Estate Probate

Being named as the executor of an estate is a significant responsibility, and it can also be an emotionally difficult experience. We have a wealth of expertise representing clients to obtain grants of probate and administration.

If you find yourself in need of a probate lawyer in Calgary, contact Housecall Wills & Estates today for a no-cost consultation.
